The Philippine National Police (PNP) had recalled Chief Aaron Aquino’s Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) safety escorts but restored them after Aquino appealed to Chairman Rodrigo Duterte.
PDEA spokesman Derrick Carreon said on September 18 that the PNP Police Regional Office 3 (PRO3) recalled the security details of Aquino.
PNP recalled Aquino’s safety team to use them to prepare for the Southeast Asian Games, according to Carreon. Aquino later discovered, however, that they had not been used for this purpose.
Carreon said after understanding this, he appealed to Duterte to get back his safety team, citing death threats against him and his family. Duterte endorsed the application of Aquino on September 26.
Carreon said Aquino had already discussed the matter with PRO3 Regional Director of Police Brigadier General Joel Napoleon Coronel.
Aquino previously claimed that 53 PNP members were included in the list of “ninja cops” or police officers engaged in recycling illegal drugs seized during anti-drug activities.
