SEAG medalist Delos Santos eyes Asian Games in Nagoya – BusinessWorld Online
ALBERT IAN DELOS SANTOS is ready for battle in next month’s Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan.
It showed after the 20-year-old Zamboanga native swept all three gold medals and eclipsed a couple of Asian and world records in the junior men’s 70 kilograms (kg) at the Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan on Tuesday.
He had 141kg in snatch, 180kg in clean and jerk and 321kg in total to complete a golden trifecta in his class.
That feat hiked Team Philippines’ medal harvest in Tashkent to 16 golds, six silvers and nine bronzes.
Mr. Delos Santos, a Southeast Asian Games (SEAG) silver medalist, set new standards in clean and jerk and total after erasing the old Asian and world marks of 179kg and 318kg, respectively.
It came two months after also establishing new world records in clean and jerk (186kg) and total (326kg) in the -71kg class at the IWF World Junior Championships in Ismailia, Egypt where he also copped a pair of mints.
Now Mr. Delos Santos set his sights at a bigger and tougher task — a medal in Nagoya. — Joey Villar
