SBP names PH lineup for first ever FIBA esports tournament

MANILA – The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas released Philippines ‘ official line-up in the first-ever International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Esports Open 2020.

Representing the Philippines in the 17-nation tournament are Aljon Cruzin, Rocky Brana, Custer Galas, Rial Polog, Philippe Alcaraz, Al Timajo, and Clark Banzon.

FIBA media and marketing services director-general Frank Leenders said in a statement that the e-sports’ initiative is consistent with the strategic objective of Fiba to expand its reach.

The competition will be played in the NBA 2k.

“In these challenging times, we feel encouraged by the enthusiasm of some of our national federations who are already active in this space and have been our charter partners during the last few months,” he added.

The Philippines will go up against several countries and each team will comprise of five players on the court and two reserves. They will play remotely on NBA 2k using Pro-AM mode. Customization of uniforms, players, and arena is allowed.

The entire FIBA Esports Open games will be live-streamed through FIBA’s Facebook, Twitch, and Youtube.

Jason Argent, 2K’s senior vice president of basketball operations said the company is honored to partner with FIBA in creating the tournament and celebrate the global appeal of basketball.
