Portions of a condominium complex in Davao City cracked and crumbled after a 6.5-magnitude quake jolted parts of Mindanao on Thursday morning, marking the third time this month a powerful trembling rocked the southern Philippines.
Ecoland 4000 did not collapse entirely, but parts of its exterior walls and ceilings fall away, causing disaster and rescue officials to hurry around 9 a.m. to the complex.
Several residents have been seen exiting the bleeding of the compound. Some have told ABS-CBN News that they have been hit during the quake by falling debris.
According to Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, authorities were still verifying a report that four carpenters were trapped under the rubble in the building.
At 10 a.m., the total number of injured people has yet to be determined by authorities.
Duterte-Carpio and her brother, Deputy Mayor Sebastian Duterte, are monitoring developments on the ground in the area.
Their uncle, Rodrigo Duterte, was safe in their hometown when the quake struck, said Salvador Panelo, presidential spokesman.
