The Philippine National Police (PNP) voiced approval for President Rodrigo Duterte’s call to re-impose the death penalty for drug and plunder offenses.
The PNP completely supports the national government’s legislative agenda for efficient legislation that will add more teeth to the crusade against crime, drugs, and
, including by imposing capital punishment for drug-related heinous crime and plunder.
Albayalde stated that this step could be a “game-changer” in the government’s campaign against illegal drugs as well as the fight against crime and corruption.
According to Albayalde, if the death penalty is imposed, it will be drug personalities for the large moment, adding that lawmakers would certainly study the suggestion to reimpose it.
In his fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday, Duterte said that while the public has done their role in addressing the persistent drug threat, there is still a need to fix corruption, which he believes enables illegal drugs to proliferate.
Duterte stated that drugs will not be crushed unless we continue to eliminate the corruption that enables the social monster to survive.
He added that he respectfully call on Congress to reinstate the death penalty for heinous drug-related crimes as well as plunder.
Meanwhile, Albayalde also stated that he shares the Chief Executive’s frustration over the government’s corruption issues, noting the government’s campaign against corruption.
The PNP has a duty to play its key part in this crusade under a nation-wide strategy alongside the attempts of other organizations and stakeholders
