The Philippine National Police (PNP) and NCPRI led the destruction of counterfeit and pirated products estimated at P80.2 million in Camp Crame, Quezon City.

PNP Police Officer-in-Charge Lieutenant General Archie Francisco Gamboa and Deputy Director-General Teodoro Pascua’s Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines were present when the falsified products were destroyed.

Tractor rollers flattened the falsified products like luxury luggage, boots, food seasoning, shampoo, lotion, and high-value watches.

Pascua acknowledged today’s unfortunate reality in which counterfeiters actively use the software, digital platforms, and online intermediaries to market and grow counterfeit products in their company.

The Internet has created huge opportunities for companies to promote their products and sell them to customers. Nevertheless, its global reach, transparency and largely unregulated nature also provided an outlet for fake products to be exchanged and distributed.

Fifty sacks of pirated DVDs worth P7 million were also destroyed.
