Independent internet speed-testing firm Ookla reported the fastest internet speeds in the Philippines are still what PLDT-Smart provides.
The third to fourth quarters of 2018 ranking of fixed-line internet service providers, Ookla mentioned PLDT came out on top with download speeds of up to 52.28 megabits per second (Mbps) and upload speeds of up to 55.95 Mbps having a Speed Score of 18.57
Sky Broadband followed suit with download and upload speeds of 30.42 / 4.8 Mbps respectively. Smart Bro came in 3rd and Globe 4th place.
Smart claimed throne over its rival Globe Telecom on mobile. Smart claims an average download speeds of 13.85 Mbps and upload speeds of 6.35 Mbps. Globe, however, had an average download speed of 11.36 Mbps and upload speed of 4.94 Mbps.
“This award is proof that our continued investments in our network to improve the mobile internet experience of our customers across the country are paying off,” stated Mario Tamayo, PLDT and Smart’s senior VP for Network Planning and Engineering.
PLDT is reported have an estimated $5 billion investment to upgrade and expand its network from 2016 to 2020. In 2018, capital spending reached P58 billion.
