PLDT High Speed Hitters beat feisty Akari Chargers – BusinessWorld Online
IF NOT for the last-minute league decision to reduce the second PVL on Tour into a non-regular conference, the PLDT High Speed Hitters would have gone for a back-to-back crown.
But PLDT coach Rald Ricafort and his wards don’t mind, as long as they treat each game as if it was a regular one just like in the inaugural staging.
“It wasn’t in our control to make it a normal conference, I guess that’s the way it is,” said Mr. Ricafort right after the Manuel V. Pangilinan-owned franchise edged a feisty Akari, 25-14, 26-24, 21-25, 25-20, over the weekend in Tubod, Davao del Norte.
“What’s important is to keep the mindset of always improving each day and we consider every game as an important game, stay in shape and keep playing well,” he added.
If there’s any consolation, PLDT ended up with a pristine 2-0 record this staging that stretched its perfect run in this same conference to 10 after sweeping last year in eight outings.
It also gave the High Speed Hitters more motivation as they shoot for their third crown and defend their Invitational championship late this year.
“At least we have something to look forward too and for sure it won’t be easy to defend our Invitational title,” said Mr. Ricafort. “But I assure you, we will prepare really hard for that.” — Joey Villar
