San Miguel Beer successfully scored a breakthrough in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup by pulling to pieces a short-staffed Blackwater, 127-106, on Friday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Charles Rhodes made 32 points, 19 rebounds, 6 blocks, and 3 assists for San Miguel.
Marcio Lassiter waxed hot from the perimeter, connecting 9 triples to finish with a conference-high 29 points making the Beermen’s first win in 3 games.
Ray Parks paved the way for the Elite with 23 points. But without their reinforcement Alex Stepheson, Blackwater was very vulnerable against San Miguel.
Stepheson reportedly flew to the US to attend to some matters.
“Having an import or none, as long as we win, I’d take it any day,” cited Beermen coach Leo Austria.
The Beermen also got 19 points from Alex Cabangot. June Mar Fajardo and Von Pessumal had 12 points each.
Last night was a welcome victory for San Miguel which had been struggling in the PBA mid-season tournament after winning its fifth straight all-Filipino title.
“This is a good take-home treat going to our game against Ginebra,” said Austria.
Blackwater fell to their second loss in 7 games.
