Pandemic-delayed Tokyo Olympics is PH’s best chance for Olympic glory

MANILA – The Association of Boxing Alliances in the Philippines or ABAP is optimistic that the Tokyo Olympics will push through in July next year.

ABAP president Ricky Vargas is hopeful that the Olympics would push through as this is our nation’s best chance to achieve Olympic glory.

In a recent survey in Japan, half of Tokyo residents are not comfortable with hosting the Olympics in their city, Some either want further delays and the others want outright cancellation.

Boxers Eumir Marcial and Irish Magno already qualified for Tokyo Olympics. ABAP is hoping other boxers such as Nesthy Petecio, Carlo Paalam, Rogen Ladon, and Ian Clark Bautista would make the cut as well.

All National team boxers are currently conducting training via online coaching and receiving incentives from ABAP and the MVP Sports Foundation

ABAP revealed that Amateur boxers earn only a monthly salary of P10,000 to P40,000.
