On Monday, Malacañang said it respected some local public units ‘ decision to prohibit the introduction of live pigs and pork products from Luzon regions impacted by African swine fever.
Cebu and Davao towns, as well as Bohol and Negros Oriental provinces, have implemented constraints to prevent the spread of ASF, which is deadly to pigs but not dangerous to animals.
Panelo also voiced trust in the Agriculture Department’s capacity to tackle ASF’s threat under Secretary William Dar.
The Palace spokesperson added that after Dar verified the existence of ASF in Pangasinan, the DA took steps to prevent the viral disease. Previously, in Bulacan and Rizal, ASF instances were only reported.
