Sen. Manny Pacquiao said on Wednesday that he agrees with Senate President Vicente Sotto III to leave Jesus Christ out of the country’s debate on re-imposing the death penalty.
Senators started discussions on suggestions to revive the death penalty on Tuesday. Sen. Franklin Drilon said that the victim of wrongful execution was even Jesus Christ. He added that judges and magistrates, being human, are fallible and could make choices that might cost the life of people.
For Sotto, the best way to curb the country’s illegal drug issue is a good demand reduction strategy, not death penalty. But Pacquiao answered by stating that government and officials must trust the public and assist attempts to reform the judiciary.
He expects that the bill will be discussed extensively in the Senate.s
