Over 8,000 people displaced by Mindanao earthquake

The magnitude 6.6 earthquake in Mindanao affected 1,681 families or 8,402 people, the National Council for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (NDRRMC) said on Wednesday, October 30 in its latest situation report.

In its 6 am the report on Wednesday, the NDRRMC said the families were from Kidapawan, Mlang, and Tulunan–the epicenter of the tremor that hit Tuesday, October 29–all in Cotabato.

Of the number of people affected, 3,505 were in evacuation centers and the rest were served outside the evacuation sites.

The central office, field offices, and National ResourceOperations Center of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has P1,978,803,246.13 in standby funds, of which the Quick Response Fund is available in excess of P1 billion, the NDRRMC said.

The agency also said that for affected families, there are 333,285 family food packs and food and non-food items.

The NDRRMC placed the official death toll on Wednesday at 5 a.m. at 6 a.m., defined as the following:

Nonetheless, Nestor Narciso, 66, Koronadal City, South Cotabato Angel Andy, 22, Arakan, Cotabato Rene Boy Andy, 7, Arakan, Cotabato Marichelle Moria, 23, Tulunan, Cotabato Jesriel Pabra, 15, Magsaysay, Davao del Sur Davao del Sur Police reported 3 more deaths following the strong tremor not yet reflected in the official NDRMC list.
