Official death toll from sea disaster in Iloilo-Guimaras at 31

The death toll in the waters between Iloilo and Guimaras from the capsize of 3 motorbancas is 31, said Tuesday evening the Iloilo City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC).

In the waters off Dumangas, Iloilo Tuesday, two more bodies have been retrieved.

The CDRRMC said 65 survived from the mishap—52 passengers and 13 crew members.

Some 73 travelers have been included in the manifesto while 10 others have not been included.

Allegedly because of squall or sudden violent winds, the motorboats Chi-Chi and Keziah 2 capsized Saturday evening. A few hours later, another motorboat, Jenny Vince, chapped.

The Maritime Industry Authority (Marina) has launched its inquiry into the incident and has also temporarily suspended the activities of all Iloilo-Guimaras route passenger motorbancas.
