The heartbreak is over for National University after three lengthy weeks at the UAAP Season 82.
Taking full advantage of the ice-cold shooting of the FEU Tamaraws, on Wednesday, September 25, the NU Bulldogs scored a 61-39 beatdown to win their first win at the Mall of Asia Arena men’s basketball tournament.
Building a huge 37-13 lead in the middle, the Bulldogs capped their dominance with a 4:16 mark 29-point gap, 45-16, off Dave Ildefonso’s fast-break layup. In fact, Ildefonso outscored the entire Tamaraws squad at that stage, 18-16.
Although FEU managed to cut the lead below 20 points midway through the 4th, 31-49, their run was just too little after a quick L-Jay Gonzales layup, too late as NU cruised to the easy breakthrough victory. On an 8-of-15 shooting and 8 rebounds, Ildefonso paced the Bulldogs with 20 points.
We are winning together, we are losing together, right? That’s our mantra – no one gets left behind said NU coach Jamike Jarin after the Bulldogs finished a painful stretch where they lost just one point to 3 of their first 4 games, while the other overtime defeat.
Barkley Eboña buried 17 points and took 12 shots for the Tamaraws, who shot from the field a woeful 15-of-79 (19%).
