NPA ‘terrorist’ killed in firefight with police, soldiers in Masbate

A supposed communist rebel killed and a soldier wounded in an armed conflict between “CPP-NPA Terrorists” (CNTs) and military forces within the province of Masbate.

The Police Regional Office 5 stated uniformed personnel of the 1st Police Mobile Force Company, the Regional Intelligence Division 5 and the 96th Military Intelligence Company during a combat operation Saturday morning in Barangay Gangao, Baleno town came across an estimated 30 CNTs. The group were led by a certain Rolidel Tugbo, alias Nonoy, Tugbo, or Ka Bungkig.

The encounter lasted for about two hours, led to the death of an “NPA terrorist” and the wounding of a soldier. Authorities attributed equipment of an M16 assault rifle, a Molotov bomb, three rocket-propelled grenades, two M203 40-mm grenade launchers, a cellular phone, and subversive documents were recovered from the encounter site.

The CNTs were said to have retreated into deep jungle with their wounded comrades. The wounded soldier was hurried to the University of Santo Tomas Hospital in Legazpi City for treatment. The dead CNT was taken to undergo autopsy.

Further militaries were deployed to the encounter site for search operations and the likely recovery of other wounded CNTs.
