The trial run of a China-made train on the MRT-3 will be extended for another month, the Transportation Department said Thursday.
The Dalian train set will be tested at 8:30 p.m. on the MRT-3. Till 10:30 p.m. Every day until 30 November. Originally the trial run was scheduled to end on Thursday, said the DOTr.
MRT-3 manager for Operations Michael Capati said the Dalian train was running properly with “good” passenger response.
Former President Benigno Aquino III’s administration bought 48 P3.8 billion Dalian trains, most of which were not used due to doubts about their compatibility with the MRT tracks.
The train set has a capacity of 1,050 passengers per trip, the DOTr said, with 3 cars.
Senator Grace Poe said earlier that Dalian train deployment was a “low-hanging fruit” in addressing the capital’s worsening traffic situation.
