Pasay Voyagers defended home turf by thwarting Thursday’s visit to Bacoor City Strikers 83-78 at the 2019 MPBL Lakan Cup at Cuneta Astrodome. The Voyagers led by as many as 16 points, but it was a game late for Strikers behind ex-PBA pro Marlou Aquino and RJ Ramirez.
Ramirez struck a 3-pointer to make it 81-78 with 72 seconds left after Bacoor dropped by 10 points in the fourth quarter.But a free-throw Alejandrino Antonio Inigo off a technical foul on Gab Banal and a Strikers turnover in the ensuing play meant that Bacoor couldn’t follow through on his comeback attempt.
Raymund Ilagan paced Voyagers with 16 points, 7 rebounds, 8 assists, while Ramirez scored 15 for Strikers, who also received 13 from Aquino. Pasay enhanced to 4-5 as he handled Bacoor’s second defeat in 8 matches.
In the other matches, Bacolod Master Sardines (3-5) beat Zamboanga Family Brand Sardines (4-4) 84-82, while Caloocan Supremos — Victory Liner (3-5) hit Rizal Golden Coolers — XentroMall (1-6) 92-78. Paolo Javelona starred with 27 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals in Bacolod’s win.
Thomas Torres, meanwhile, was the go – to-guy of Caloocan with 17 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 1 steal.
