Mayor Ampatuan’s 90-Day Suspension of the People Does Not Resist

Sandiganbayan has suspended 90-day suspension of Mayor Datu Sajid Islam Ampatuan of Shariff Saydona Mustapha, Maguindanao pending P98 million graft and malversation charges filed against the mayor.

It was created after the anti-graft court granted Sajid’s motion who voluntarily served his 90-day suspension for dignity as provided by Section 13 of the anti-graft law stating that any public prosecutor facing criminal prosecution under the proper information for on any offense involving fraud in government or public funds or property was suspended from office.

Sajid – who, unlike his brothers Andal Jr. and Zaldy, was released last month in the killing of 58 people including 32 journalists at the 2009 Maguindanao massacre – were charged with graft and malversation raps over its alleged P98 million ban on goodbye funds for the purchase of farm inputs such as rice, maize seeds, and fertilizers from Tamoni Enterprises from 2008 to 2009.

Government prosecutors deny that Sajid and the provincial government officials forged disbursement vouchers and other supporting documents showing that Tamoni Enterprises was paid without their actual payment.
