The Department of Tourism (DOT) is committed to promoting Iloilo City as a world-class destination for conferences, promotions, conventions and exhibitions (MICE).
From its green urban development, delicious local recipes and rich cultural heritage, DOT Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat said the city had the “perfect recipe” for success in becoming a global MICE tourism hub.
This makes Iloilo City a tourism priority area that meets global standards for MICE growth and, as it has become more competitive, causes a ripple effect that makes it a truly inclusive tourism development, “said Puyat, who led the” Meet you in Iloilo “campaign at the Iloilo Convention Center.
Also present at the launch were Senator Franklin Drilon, Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas, Iloilo Province Governor Arthur Defensor Jr., DOT Undersecretary Arturo Bpncato Jr., and Pocholo Paragas, Chief Operating Officer of Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA), DOT Infrastructure Branch.
TIEZA General Manager and Chief Operating Officer Paragas said that several projects are underway to help boost Iloilo’s sustainable tourism development program, including funding for the restoration of the Iloilo River and the Aduana or Old Customs Building and the completion of the8-kilometer Esplanade.
Ilonggo Senator Drilon also said that the success of the city would benefit other western provinces of the Visayas, especially Guimaras.
Treñas, on the other hand, said that Iloilo had the potential after having successfully hosted the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) 2015 and the ASEAN ministerial meetings in 2017.
The MICE campaign will culminate in the Dinagyang Festival in January 2020.
