MANILA – President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday, signed a law the would establish the country’s first National Academy of Sports.
Senator Win Gatchalian, one of the bill’s co-authors and co-sponsor, confirmed the signing of the law that would institutionalize an educational system in aid of the national sustainable sports program.
The National Academy of Sports will be offering a full scholarship basis, secondary education to all natural-born Filipino citizens with potential on sports. NAS will be attached to the Department of Education in close coordination with the Philippine Sports Commission.
The National Academy of Sports’ main campus will be at the existing New Clark City Sports Complex. The construction of the campus will be under the supervision of the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA).
The newly-inked measure also mandates the organization of future nationally-funded regional high schools for sports while also giving the student’s priority access to facilities at the New Clark City Sports Complex.
President Duterte signed the act at his Presidential guest house in Davao City.
