President Rodrigo Duterte lamented the shortage of water treatment facilities, even though consumers were supposed to pay for their building.
A particular water company was not mentioned by Duterte.
Earlier, the Supreme Court issued a decision imposing fine on water concessionaires Manila Water and Maynilad worth P921 million for failing to establish sewer lines connecting all households with wastewater treatment plants.
Manila Water warned that the water level could rise by as much as P26.70 per cubic meter “exponentially”.
The ruling has since been appealed by Manila Water.
Duterte stated that under his administration, the environment is a priority. A business should not only comply with all rules and regulations on the environment but also take part in environmental care.
