A Parañaque court acquitted Gerald Bantag, chief of the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) for a deadly explosion in city jail in 2016, the Justice Department said Wednesday.
Advertisement Justice Undersecretary Markk Perete confirmed that the Parañaque Regional Trial Court acquitted Bantag of 10 counts of homicide. He said they were waiting for a copy of the decision of the trial.
Ten prisoners died on August 11, 2016, in an explosion in the city jail. It is reported that the victims, two of them Chinese, were scheduled to meet with Bantag, then the warden, to discuss the transfer from their cells of some inmates.
The victims ‘ relatives said they had suspected foul play.
