AFP hits ‘deception’ in china warships’ passage

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Armed Forces (AFP) said that there was “duplicity” when Chinese submarines lately passed through Philippine waters without notice to the government and switched off with their automatic identification systems (AIS).

We did not observe anything because our radars were unable to detect them because, as we said, duplicity was accomplished because they switched off their vessel identification systems.Brigadier General Edgard Arevalo, spokesman for the AFP, said previously this week in a forum.

Since February this year, at least four Chinese warships have passed through the Sibitu Strait in the waters of Tawi-Tawi, disclosed last week by Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, undetected by Philippine radars.

According to multiple accounts, China’s first operational aircraft carrier, the Liaoning, and its smaller vessel flotilla, could also have crossed Philippine waters.
