4 'car thieves' killed in Muntinlupa shootout

Highway Patrol Group (HPG) slain four suspected car thieves in an operation in Muntinlupa City on Friday on early morning, March 8.

Philippine National Police (PNP)-HPG Director Roberto Fajardo told reporters that officers were conducting anti-carnapping and anti-criminality operation around 5:25 a.m. along Daang Reyna, Southville 3, Poblacion, Muntinlupa when they spotted a Hyundai Accent that was earlier reported stolen.

Reports said operatives tried to slow down the vehicle, the driver refused and its passengers fired back, resulting in a police chase.

Three suspects were slain on spot as the other one died in the hospital.

The identity of the supposed car thieves is still unknown but Fajardo stated one is identified one of the groups who attempted to steal his van along Bayani Road in Taguig City on Thursday evening, March 7. Said suspects unsuccessful to steal his van as patrolling police cars but were able to grab his car keys.

Acquired from the suspects were an assortment ID cards seemingly issued by the PNP and Philippine Army, licensed cards with various names but same photos, police uniforms and several firearms such as shotgun, caliber .45 pistol and caliber .38 revolver.

A packet of alleged illegal drugs was also found in the pocket of the suspect who perished in the hospital.

Fajardo concluded the vehicle used by the suspects during the shootout was stolen last October 8, 2017 in Pandacan, Manila. A temporary plate was used was used and assigned to a Hyundai Eon as per records of the Land Transportation Office.
