Search operations led by the police last Thursday turned to a shootout that caused the deaths of three men on Dagat-Dagatan Avenue, Barangay North Bay Boulevard South, in Navotas City.
Edgar Doctolero, Kim Ryan Permejo, and Ernesto Gellado Jr. were all slain at around 6:15 a.m. when they purportedly tagged gunfire with the Northern Police District (NPD). None of the policemen were injured nor killed.
According to the police report, crew of the NPD’s Special Operations Unit and Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, along with barangay officials arrived at the suspects’ whereabouts to serve a warrant for violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition.
Gellado, worked as a janitor was presumed to take a gun out and shoot at the police team. His shot one but was wearing a bulletproof vest and a minor injury in the right hand. Shot officer fired back at Gellado, slaying him.
Permejo allegedly tossed a grenade at the police officers yet did not go off. In the later exchange of gunshots, two other suspects were slain.
Police recovered from Gellado another hand grenade, a .22-caliber pistol, another firearm and 20 packets alleged to contain crystal meth. Seen on Permejo and Doctolero were another hand grenade, two .38-caliber revolvers containing six bullets and 47 sachets of suspected meth.
