A duo pretending to be Manila traffic enforcers were detained for supposedly pulling over and forcing money from passing motorists during the late hours of Tuesday, March 12.
Agents identified suspects Noel Silva, 37 years old, and Jay-v Gantang, 36 years old. Both were arrested along Jose Abad Santos Avenue corner Mayhaligue Street, Barangay 250, Zone 22 in Tondo, Manila at about 1:20 a.m.
Police stated that Suspects will be pressed charges with usurpation of authority, a desecration of Article 177 of Republic Act 3815 (Revised Penal Code). Their case will be raised to the Manila City Prosecutor’s Office for inquest proceedings and the suspects may spend from two to 10 years in jail if found guilty.
The apprehension came from a complaint of a citizen, told Police officer 1 Narciso Ignacio Jr, the investigator, citing arresting officer, P02 John Roel Morandante of the Padre Algue Police Community Precinct.
Morandante upon verification, stated cops detained the duo wearing the uniforms of the personnel from the Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau, staffing and directing traffic.
Enforcers said they advanced at Gantang and Silva and were asked to identify themselves and were detained for failing to provide identification cards. The accused are currently under custody of the Morion Police Station.
